In general, you may be potentially eligible for the procedure if you are 18 years or older and suffer from nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism. You must have had a stable prescription for at least one year before you can undergo LASIK eye surgery. Michigan residents who have any conditions that would interfere with the eye's healing process after the procedure, such as cataracts or autoimmune disease, are not eligible for surgery. Women who are pregnant or nursing should wait to have the procedure because of the effect their hormones can have on the shape of the eye.
