Dr. Jennifer Risting graduated with honors from Indiana University – Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition Science. During her time in Bloomington, Dr. Risting was named an Indiana University Excellence Scholar and a Ruth Mary Griswold Scholarship recipient. In addition, she participated in an Indiana University travel study program studying healthcare systems, public health, and cultures in China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Thailand.
She continued her education at the Indiana University School of Optometry and received her Doctorate in Optometry with high honors. While at optometry school, she was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Society, Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society, and Volunteers Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH). In addition, she was an associate instructor teaching clinical examination skills to first- and second-year optometry students.
During her clinical training, Dr. Risting completed her externships at The Villages VA Outpatient Clinic, The Eye Institute of Utah, Lawndale Christian Health Center, and Indianapolis Eye Care Center. She then went on to complete a post-doctoral ocular disease residency program at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami Medical School where she trained with specialists in cornea, retina, glaucoma, and neuro-ophthalmology.
She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She is also an active member of the Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
She specializes in the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases. Her clinical interests are in advanced ocular surface disease treatment, including Blephex and Lipiflow, retinal disease, glaucoma, and pre- and post-operative care.
