In the early stages, vision issues caused by cataracts can usually be resolved using higher prescription lenses. However, when cataracts grow too big and start to impair vision—they should be removed.
At Grosinger, Spigelman & Grey Eye Surgeons, we offer patients a no-stitch, small incision cataract-removal surgery. Some benefits of this procedure include:
Selecting a monofocal IOL means you’ll get basic vision correction for a single focusing distance. That could be near, mid-distance, or far distance focusing and may require the need of prescription glasses to see at other distances.
Are you dealing with astigmatism in addition to cataracts? Then a Toric IOL may be the solution for you. This lens can replace your clouded lens and correct astigmatism. Just like a monofocal IOL, Toric IOLs offer clear vision at one distance.
Another popular lens replacement surgery option is multifocal IOLS, which restores visual functions and helps free you from glasses. This type of IOL allows you to achieve clearer vision at varying distances. Some can even correct astigmatism.
While standard lenses are great for single-focus distance vision, premium lenses offer much larger depth of focus. This can help reduce or even eliminate your need for glasses. Below are the premium lens options we offer.
To keep you comfortable during your cataract operation, your doctor will use a local anesthetic on your eye. They will then make a tiny incision in the sclera, or the white part of your eye. Using ultrasonic waves, your doctor will carefully dissolve the lens. The clouded lens is then removed and replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL). This lens acts as your natural lens, providing clearer vision. This entire procedure is done in about 15 minutes.
Once you’ve had cataract surgery, you can expect a comfortable recovery with noticeable results within a few days. You can even resume normal activities, like bending, lifting, and housework, about a day after surgery.
Cataract surgery is a routine, safe procedure with few complications reported. A ruptured capsule around the lens is the most likely complication patients experience—but that is extremely rare.
You don’t have to live with cataracts. Our cataract surgeons are highly trained and experienced in diagnosing and treating cataracts. Schedule an appointment today to explore your cataract surgery options.
