Certain vitamins have been shown to reduce progression of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). A daily dose of the following vitamins may be recommended: Vitamin C 500 mg, Vitamin E 400mg, Zinc oxide 80 mg, Copper 2 mg, Lutein 10mg, and Zeaxanthin 2mg. This is known as the AREDS2 formulation, and is available over the counter at most pharmacies. As always, do not start vitamins without speaking to your doctor. Quitting smoking and eating a healthy diet that includes green leafy vegetables has also been shown to decrease the risk of vision damage with AMD.
