Understanding the condition

Overview & Types

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) affects the macula, the center of the retina responsible for sharp, direct vision needed for reading, driving, and recognizing faces.

Dry AMD (85–90% of cases)

Gradual thinning of retinal tissue and protein accumulation (drusen).

Wet AMD (Advanced form)

Rapid vision loss caused by abnormal, leaking blood vessels beneath the macula.
