Overview & Causes

Styes (hordeola) and chalazia are painful, unsightly bumps along the eyelid caused by clogged oil glands or localized bacterial infections.

Styes (Hordeola)

Acute, tender infections near the base of the eyelashes or inside an eyelid gland.

Chalazia

Firm, non-tender lumps that form when a blocked Meibomian oil gland causes localized inflammation.
