Cataract Awareness Month
Cataracts are a leading cause of blindness in the U.S. The longer left untreated, the more challenging it can be to successfully remove cataracts to restore sight. Early detection and treatment of cataracts is key to preserving vision. We understand many people are concerned about venturing out during the COVID-19 pandemic. Your safety is and always has been of upmost importance to us. We want you to feel safe as we meet and treat your eye care needs. Schedule an appointment with one of our leading ophthalmologists.
Happy Father’s Day 2020
Blue Light Glasses
There has been a lot of buzz around blue light glasses. The purpose of these glasses is to filter out blue light that is emitted by screens. The problem is that blue light glasses do not help prevent eye strain from electronic devices which is the chief complaint from viewing screens over time. Many people tend to get dry eye syndrome when they view screens for long periods and glasses won’t get you to blink more. There are treatments if you are suffering from dry eye but we suggest that you first try the following:
- follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes you look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds or longer
- work in a room that is well lit
- increase the contrast on your screen
- use a matte screen filter to reduce screen glare
- use artificial tears to re-moisten eyes
- use your device a way from a ceiling fan or vent
Most eye symptoms caused by electronic screens are temporary and should lessen after you stop using them. If you have persistent eye strain, pain or soreness, it can be an indicator of a more severe condition. Contact Grosinger, Spigelman & Grey ophthalmologists in Bloomfield Hills for an appointment.

Your Surgical Experience
Many patients are nervous or apprehensive about having eye surgery, yet look forward and are excited for the outcome, especially improved vision and health. Understandably, the COVID-19 pandemic introduces a new element to the equation, making people even more uneasy because they are concerned about contracting the novel coronavirus and not sure what to expect at the surgery center. As eye doctors, our goal is to provide our patients the best eye care possible to preserve vision and optimize health. We also want to alleviate your fears as much as possible, so that you feel safe and comfortable at the surgery center.
Safety and sterility of the surgery center facilities and interactions have always and continues to be a priority to ensure the highest possible patient safety. Due to the unique nature of COVID-19, below are the changes you will notice at the surgery center to further maximize safety.
- Masks on all patients and staff at all times
- Patients family will be asked to wait in their vehicles instead of the waiting room
- Once surgery is completed, patients will be escorted to their family members rather than meeting in the recovery area
If you put off needed eye surgery due to COVID-19, please contact Grosinger, Spigelman & Grey’s Bloomfield Hills office for an appointment with one of our leading ophthalmologists.

Emergent Eye Care
Regular comprehensive eye exams are essential to make sure your eyes remain healthy. Eyes often tell us about systemic diseases and the severity of the disease. Some eye diseases do not display symptoms until you have already lost vision. Two of the most common eye diseases in the U.S. are diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration.
In between visits, it is important to contact us if you notice any changes with your eyes. This includes the following:
- Flashers or Floaters
- Teary, Painful, Irritated, Light-sensitive, Red Eyes
- Double Vision
- Pupils of Different Sizes
- Eye Pain
- Change in Vision
We are currently open with limited hours for urgent and emergent eye care needs. Please contact Grosinger, Spigelman & Grey in Bloomfield Hills if you have any questions or to make an appointment with our leading ophthalmologists.
